Professional Background

Dr Debjyoti Dutta is a medical practitioner with training in Anaesthesiology and Pain Medicine. His clinical practice focuses on the assessment and management of acute pain, chronic pain, cancer-related pain and other complex pain conditions.

He completed his MBBS with Honours from Medical College, Kolkata, followed by an MD in Anaesthesiology from King George’s Medical University, Lucknow. He subsequently completed a Fellowship in Pain Management at R.G. Kar Medical College, Kolkata, under the West Bengal University of Health Sciences.

He has also completed the Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP) awarded by the World Institute of Pain (WIP), USA, in Miami, Florida. This certification relates to training and assessment in interventional pain practice.

Clinical Experience

Dr. Dutta previously served as an Assistant Professor and was in charge of the Pain Clinic at the College of Medicine and JNM Hospital, Kalyani. His responsibilities included clinical care and medical education.

He is currently associated with Samobathi Pain Clinic, Kolkata, and Fortis Hospital, Kolkata. His clinical work involves evaluating patients with different pain conditions and discussing appropriate treatment options based on their history, examination findings, diagnosis and individual clinical requirements.

Interventional Pain Medicine

Dr. Dutta's clinical practice includes image-guided interventional procedures used in the management of selected pain conditions. Depending on the diagnosis and clinical indications, these may include:

  • Facet joint procedures

  • Medial branch blocks

  • Radiofrequency ablation (RFA)

  • Selective nerve root procedures

  • Sacroiliac joint procedures

Academic and Professional Activities

Dr. Dutta serves as Vice President of the Indian Society for the Study of Pain (ISSP). He previously served as Registrar of the Indian Academy of Pain Medicine (IAPM).

He is the Founder and a Faculty Member of the Asian Pain Academy, where he participates in educational activities for doctors interested in Pain Medicine and image-guided interventional procedures.

His academic activities include teaching, lectures, practical workshops and continuing medical education programmes for healthcare professionals. He also participates in national and international conferences related to Pain Medicine.

These activities form part of his professional involvement in medical education and the exchange of clinical knowledge.

Pain can affect mobility, sleep, daily activities and overall quality of life. The evaluation of a patient with pain involves identifying possible causes, understanding the nature and duration of symptoms, and assessing the impact on everyday functioning.
